Inflatable Beds

Inflatable beds, also known as air mattresses are a great item to own. They come in a large variety of shapes and sizes and have many uses. An Inflatable bed will normally be made out of PVC vinyl plastic. A new innovation in the textile reinforced urethane plastic has made this a more useful version that exists on the market as well.

When the inflatable bed is deflated they can be both rolled into a nice small package or folded like a blanket to store with ease. This makes inflatable beds an extremely popular item for people to take on camping trips to help remove the need to sleep on the cold hard ground. An inflatable bed is also a great thing to have just in case you have an unexpected guest stopping by so you can quickly make them comfortable without the need of a full bed. Inflatable beds can either be inflated orally by blowing into the valve that the bed will have on it, or by the use of a manual foot pump. Some can even be pumped with the use of an electric pump. There are some inflatable beds on the market that will actually inflate up to a certain pressure to help with the inflation. This last step is normally done just by opening the valve on the side of the inflatable bed.

Inflatable beds come in three main categories of use. These are camping, temporary home use (for guests that are stopping by), and full time or permanent use (use in your bedroom). There are inflatable beds that are specifically designed to perform solely for camping or temporary use. These ones normally come with a lower price tag as well. Whereas there are others that are build for the purpose of being a permanent bed in someone’s house or recreational vehicle. Some inflatable beds are even made with wheel well cut outs that are made to use in the back of many different vehicles, like a pickup truck or sports utility vehicle.

Some models of inflatable beds are made to be extremely light weight. They can also come with a reduced size and thickness. These models are specifically designed with the intent of campers and or backpackers in mind. The inflatable beds can sometimes be called sleeping pads and can often be constructed with a layer of foam under the air chambers to make the smaller size more comfortable. Some of the inflatable beds are designed with high quality air chambers. These ones are designed to be used in the home constantly. The air chambers of these models are constructed out of a vulcanized rubber. The air chambers are then covered in either a canvas layer or a polyurethane layer. These air chambers then are installed into the main cloth shell to create the high quality inflatable bed. The look of a permanent inflatable bed looks almost identical to that of a conventional bed except for the fact that they have one or two air chambers with hoses protruding out of them at the head of the bed. The hoses are used to connect an air inflator that normally will have two outlet valves. This air inflator will normally have a remote control to allow the users of the inflatable bed to customize the firmness of the mattress depending on the individuals’ requirements. This management makes it very simple for people to get the best of whatever firmness in a mattress they require with nothing more than pressing a button on a remote control.

There are a few governmental safety agencies that warn against allowing infants to use an inflatable bed. This is because they tend to be too soft and can possibly suffocate smaller children in the folds of the bed. Young children can also become trapped between the inflatable bed and the beds frame. There are also many recent studies done by the government that are looking into the poisonous nature that the phthalates and dioxins PVC hold in vinyl inflatable beds as well as other soft vinyl products. There have been similar studies done by the European Union to stop many vinyl materials being used in bedding as well as children toys.

Larger inflatable beds have also been released on the market recently. These are aimed at guest rooms and permanent house beds. These range in size, just like a conventional bed, from twin to king size. Almost all the permanent inflatable beds can be fit perfectly with standard bed sheets and blankets. These are easy to obtain so this makes the inflatable bed a good choice still. Some of the sizes that are available in the inflatable beds like California King and Western King are a little more difficult to find bedding for, as they were original sizes for water bed use.

Some inflatable beds come in a raised version. These are typically raised from the ground to keep the person sleeping in it further away from the ground and offer a more traditional bed feel. These types of inflatable beds are not meant to be used in a permanent situation. The base of these beds are an air chamber and not a solid foundation so excessive use may cause strain on this.

One thing that inflatable beds can be used for that has not yet been spoken about here is the ability to use some of these in swimming pools or at the beach. These inflatable beds are most commonly low cost ones that are composed of four or five tubes that run the entire length of the inflatable bed. These can also be called lilo’s, pool air mat’s, pool loungers and even a floating mattress. These are most commonly used to lay down on the top of the water and relax. It does look a lot like a standard inflatable bed, but they are not built as strong and tend to break easily if used on solid ground. That makes them unreliable for use as a sleeping mattress and makes it very impractical to be used as a bed.
